Description

Our Story

Main Street Books has lived in the old general store on Main Street in Davidson, NC since 1987 when Barbara Freund & Betty Reinke established the area’s most esteemed independent bookstore. After 27 years of expertly putting books in the hands of bibliophiles all around town, Betty & Barbara retired in 2015.

Adah Fitzgerald now carries the torch as proprietor of Main Street Books. In early 2016, the bookstore got a facelift – Adah repaired & painted the antique bookcases, polished the original wood floors, refreshed the layout, and created a comfortable sitting area for quiet reading and events.

We strive to feed the imaginations of our readership with books that act as windows and mirrors. We also invite readers and writers into conversation with readings, signings, book club, writing club, and story time.

Our Mission

Main Street Books enriches and sustains local readers and writers through an inclusive, thoughtful collection, curated events, and an engaged staff.

Promising Pages

Main Street Books is honored to partner with Promising Pages, a nonprofit organization that collects new and donated books and shares them with children living in the Charlotte Area Book Desert: those with few, if any, books at home.

Main Street Books and Promising Pages have a shared commitment to literacy, community, and ensuring that diverse literature is accessible to all members of our community. We are proud to be a local resource to purchase books to donate to children that need them.
