BACK IN THE DAY

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

LoudElephant was started as LOUD in 1988, with the mantra 'Dressing The World In Colour'. At first LOUD designed, sourced and manufactured interesting clothes and fabrics in Indonesia, India and Nepal retailing through its own shops in the UK, Australia and Bali. Happily distributing fun, colourful, LOUD threads to a diverse and multicultural audience.

BECOMING LOUDELEPHANT

In 2012 LOUD re-branded as LoudElephant, and ever since has been a fixture at summer festivals throughout Europe retailing women and men's clothing, LOUD hats, fancy dress, festival essentials and all sorts of things you didn't even realise you needed in your festival kit bag! You may have seen us (or some of our distinctive hats!) at Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, Download, Isle of Wight, Latitude, WOMAD or some of the others! We can also be found keeping people warm with winter hats, clothing and accessories at Christmas Markets and Winter Wonderlands across the UK.

Our online presence has grown and grown since it was started in 2011 and has really helped us to bring together two of our biggest passions: dressing the world in colour and helping elephants. For many years we have been sponsoring elephants through the Save Elephant Foundation based at the Elephant Nature Park in the Mae Taeng Valley, just north of Chiang Mai, Thailand. LoudElephant is our way of incorporating this passion for elephant conservation with our existing business so that a generous portion of the money generated through sales goes directly towards elephant conservation projects around the world.

When we started donating money from every sale we extended our support to two more charities in addition to the Save Elephant Foundation – The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation and Elephant Family. David Shepherd works mostly with elephants in Africa and Elephant Family primarily supports projects in India and South East Asia. Supporting these three charities enables us to support a worldwide network of elephant conservation projects. To find out more about these charities click here.

Dressing the world in colour has also gone from strength to strength, we are still manufacturing clothing in three countries and we're always on the lookout for new eye-catching prints and cloths to make our clothes from. We specialise in classic garments that stand out because of the loud prints we have chosen. We are constantly updating our collection of unique Loud Originals shirts and our women's wear range is growing all the time with over 40 different styles available in hundreds of different prints.

WHERE DO OUR DONATIONS GO?

We donate money from every sale to several awesome charities working to help these magnificent creatures.

For many years we have been involved with the Save Elephant Foundation based at the Elephant Nature Park in the Mae Taeng Valley, Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The Save Elephant Foundation supports Asian elephants that have been abused or neglected, by providing a safe haven and a caring atmosphere where the elephants are rehabilitated both mentally and physically.

The foundation also educates local people on the humane ways of caring for their elephants in order to change perceptions of elephant handling for the future.

We have been very impressed by the work of the foundation, and their founder Lek Chailert, and want to do more to help them save these magnificent creatures.

We do this by offering the Save Elephant Foundation financial donations which can go towards many essential things such as the facilities at the Park, caring for the elephants, local community educational outreach, rescue and rehabilitation programs and research.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT

ELEPHANTS NEED OUR HELP

Once common throughout Africa and Asia, elephant numbers fell dramatically in the 19th and 20th centuries, largely due to the ivory trade and habitat loss. While some populations are now stable, poaching, human-wildlife conflict and habitat destruction continue to threaten the species.

In addition to supporting the Save Elephant Foundation, we also regularly donate to two other UK based elephant charities that concentrate on helping elephants in other parts of the world –

DAVID SHEPHERD WILDLIFE FOUNDATION

To help the plight of African elephants we are contributing through the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation towards their Waterways project in Uganda and their elephant orphanage in Zambia.

ELEPHANT FAMILY

In India and other parts of South East Asia we support some of the many projects run by Elephant Family. Their work includes saving and maintaining habitats and working with communities to avoid conflict where elephant habitats and human civilisations overlap.

These organisations promise to ensure that 100% of all monies donated by LoudElephant are channelled, in full, directly to their projects that we feel most passionate about.

ELEPHANT PARADE

Elephant Parade is a Social Enterprise that was founded in 2006 by father and son, Marc and Mike Spits, to help raise money for elephant conservation, and in particular elephant hospitals. Marc and Mike were moved by the plight of a baby elephant named Mosha who had lost a leg after stepping on a landmine, and held their first exhibition in their native Netherlands in 2007. In 2008 Mosha became the first elephant to receive a prosthetic leg and has since gone from strength to strength!

Elephant Parade has run exhibitions all around the world raising awareness of the issues facing elephants through art. Each exhibition features a display of between 30 and 250 elephant statues that have each been decorated by an artist or celebrity. The elephant statues are then auctioned off with the majority of the funds going towards elephant conservation and awareness projects.

Elephant Family recently teamed up with Elephant Parade to help them raise awareness by promoting the auction of the Elephant Parade UK Tour elephants. After hearing about this we had to get involved! Now we own one of these magnificent elephant statues…..
