PC: La Casita Bakeshop
In our home state of Texas, we benefit from a large Latinx population representing so many diverse cultures in the communities and countries around us. It’s our pleasure to show you the people behind three of our favorite Latinx-owned small businesses in the Dallas area.
La Casita Bakeshop in Richardson, TX is owned by Maricsa Trejo and her husband Alex Henderson. “Growing up Mexican American I am grateful for the opportunity I have but also for the struggles I endured. Not everyone gets to be in my position and I acknowledge that wholeheartedly. I came from humble beginnings but my hard working parents taught me to reach further and also to never settle … I am thankful for everyone who has graced my bakery full love … you guys have made a little Mexican girl's dream come true. – La Casita facebook post”
La Finca Coffee & Bakery in Frisco, TX is owned by Lee and Patricia Gonzales who took a detour from corporate America to become missionaries in Mexico. While there, “… our passion for coffee began in Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico in 2010. What started as a quaint coffee shop with a small food and dessert menu, eventually expanded into a coffee roastery and bakery. Fast-forward to 2019, we moved to back to Frisco, Texas and opened La Finca Coffee and Bakery and continue to offer high-quality coffee and authentic Mexican dishes that reflect old world traditions and values. – La Finca website” Today they continue to practice “Relational Coffee” by sourcing from and supporting small local farmers in Mexico, Costa Rica and Colombia.
Luli's Taqueria in Plano, TX is run by Ray and Alex, who you can find slinging breakfast tacos every morning 6 days a week. Yes it’s inside a convenience store at a gas station, but also yes gas station tacos can be some of the best anywhere. Don’t knock ‘em until you try ‘em!
