ABOUT

Welcome to ZAFA Wines,

utilizing ancestral farming practices ZAFA Wines honors the soil first and foremost as we proudly farm hybrid grapes at trout brook vineyard, located in the saint croix river valley in hudson, wisconsin.

our vision is to farm beyond organic, including a no-spray program eschewing spraying of any kind (yes this includes organic sprays).

we ferment grapes into sparkling wine and each vintage is inspired by the fruit first.
ZAFA wines are intentional and transparent in every way—

just fermented juice from responsibly farmed living fruit.

zafa name

ZAFA a literary reference to the novel “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” by Junot Díaz.

Zafa is a powerful counterspell against fukú, the intergenerational curse of colonization. According to Díaz, fukú is “the perfect blend of bad luck mixed with mayhem that one could fall into or get thrown at by the biggest sorcerer: life.” Zafa is represented in the spirit of the golden mongoose, seen represented throughout our website and merch. ZAFA embraces the mythology of this counterspell, attempting to undo harm and promote the redemption of our minds, hearts, and land.

it’s a beautiful opportunity and privilege to run and operate a small business. we recognize, accept and surrender to the reality that it comes with a platform and the power to influence and create change. lest we forget uncle ben’s advice to young peter parker (spider man), “with great power there must also come great responsibility."

we’re no super hero’s, but we are humans that welcome the responsibility with purpose and the dedication to serve our communities by giving back and raising awareness and funds for important causes, ranging from social justice and harm reduction to environmental issues.

zafa wines pledges to donate 2.3% of the profits of every collection to a nonprofit organizations and/or marginalized owned and operated organization that is aligned with our values and purpose. a donation will be made per collection at the end of the fiscal year of the product release or when the collection is “sold-out," whichever occurs first.
