Farmers Jam began as a collective of farmers and friends who made jam and played music to raise money for planting fruit trees on local farms. Now we’ve got a trademarked fruit spread, host shows with live music and local food, supporting farmers along the way. Our mission is to spread joy through live music and local food, and we hope you’ll join us soon!
What is Farmers Jam?
Farmers Jam is a company dedicated to getting people in touch with nature’s rhythm so we can live in harmony with the earth. Our mission is to spread joy through live music, local food and planting fruit trees. Through our live events and local food products, we raise money to plant fruit trees on local farms. Through our content, we highlight the incredible people producing our food and building local food systems, as well as offer education for people to grow and cook for themselves. A healthy, vibrant local food system is the underpinning of a happy society, because it offers nutrition, jobs, and environmental resilience. Plus, there’s nothing better than eating your first peach of the season!
How did Farmers Jam begin?
Farmers Jam began as an idea back in 2015, when Tenisio Seanima suggested having several farmers perform at the Georgia Organics Conference to James Carr, who was helping to plan it. While we weren’t able to pull it off, the idea stuck and James eventually went on to host a Farmers Jam in November 2018 at Star Bar in Little 5 Points. Several local farmers came to perform and jammed out on stage. It was awesome, and we raised money to plant fruit trees on local farms. After that, Farmers Jam became a regular event in Atlanta. In 2020, we created our own batch of jam using locally sourced fruit, and in 2021 began operating Farmers Jam as a business focused on live music, local food, and planting fruit trees.
Why do you give fruit trees to local farmers?
Giving fruit trees to farmers is everything we believe in. For starters, fruit trees will provide a sustainable revenue stream for years — one mature tree can produce a few thousand dollars worth of fruit per year. Fruit trees will also create oxygen and absorb carbon for decades. While there have been a lot of tree plantings around the world, we feel planting trees on farms gives them the best chance at reaching full maturity and living for as long as possible, because farmers possess the knowledge and have an economic incentive to keep the trees alive. Besides, if we don’t support the people who are growing our food, how are we going to eat?
